Painted decors, free gestures.
Since 2015, Maud Péneau and Coralie Camarassa Ferreira have been developing a decidedly unique art of pattern design at their Bleu Cobalt studio. As ornamentalists, they design hand-painted wallpapers and frescoes in situ, using natural materials, in an approach that combines creativity and craftsmanship.
Each strip is a unique work of art. Hand-drawn on recycled paper from large printing works, the designs are created slowly and precisely, in small batches. There are no mass-produced collections or digitally generated patterns: Bleu Cobalt cultivates the imperfection of the gesture and the vibration of the material. The paper becomes a living medium, shaped to order and adapted to the scale of the space.
Trained in pattern design for ten years, they collaborate with fashion, decoration and stationery companies, while exhibiting their work at trade fairs such as Maison&Objet and The London Print Design Fair. Winners of several awards, they continue their exploration through fresco, Turkish marbling (Ebru) and decorative painting, in a quest for balance between intuition and high standards.
At Bleu Cobalt, the hand is everywhere. It traces, nuances and prints. A bridge between art and space, where every wall becomes a canvas. •
